The Evil Scale

People are obsessed with losing weight. They should be. The United States is getting more and more obese everyday. We seem to be eating more and exercising less. Not good.

Here is the problem (well...one of them): The Evil Scale

People are obsessed with the scale. They step on it everyday and if it's down it they feel great. If the numbers are up that morning, well, that day isn't going to go so well. Not so great for motivation and accuracy on progress.

Let me explain how it should be. May it enlighten your new view on weight loss.

Your body has muscle and fat. In fact, everyone has muscle and everyone has fat. Shocking! This is a fact. Even physique competitors have fat. Yes, shocking! You must have fat to survive and function in the world. If you have 0% body fat, you will die. Fact. Fat protects organs, and plays a big role in body function, and hormonal function. Needless to say your goal should not be 0% body fat.

Instead of the weight loss being the primary obsession, the focus should be on body fat percentage instead. If one were to hop on the scale and be happy that they lost 5 pounds, they would not know if weight loss was truly fat. It could be muscle loss or more likely water loss.

Your new goal, courtesy of the American College of Sports Medicine:

Find your body fat percentage range according to your age and gender. Where do you want to be?

The evil scale will now be replaced with the hero bioelectrical impedance:

This is a very easy quick way to check body fat percentage. It is not 100% accurate. But it's better then the evil scale! Don't be obsessed with weight loss. Be obsessed with body fat loss. Because you don't want to lose muscle.

How? I thought you'd never ask. Exercise! Eat right!

Add walking on a treadmill at the highest incline you can handle for at least 20min/day. 15% incline is the highest that most treadmills go. This does not replace the exercise you are currently doing. A nice, little no-stress walk will be easy to add without any negative affects to your central nervous system.

How to make sure you have all your bases covered:

Nutrition is key when it comes to weight loss. Make sure you get started on the right foot with the 24 day challenge. The challenge presses the reset button on your body and sets you up for successful body fat loss, increase energy, and healthy living.

With an Advocare 24 Day Challenge and incline treadmill walking you can't lose. I know. I have done it. I have watched people do it. People ask me what to do. This is THE go to answer. Because, it works.
